Lending a hand to the youth facing a crisis

Enlightment Family Services offers a key service for young mental health patients in crises. Intensive In-Home Therapeutic Services (IIHS) provides help for youth who are at high risk of placement in professional treatment centers or foster care due to serious behavioral health challenges.

These time-limited therapeutic intervention services aim to reduce out-of-home placement and preserve normal family living arrangements via in-home supports. For youth who are already in treatment centers, IIH Services helps them return home sooner by giving families the tools needed to provide better at-home care and natural supports.

Requirements / Criteria for IIH

Individuals between the ages of 5-21 must demonstrate a clinical necessity due to mental, behavioral, or emotional illness that causes functional impairments in major life activities.

They must meet at least two of the following criteria on a continuing or intermittent basis:

  1. Be at risk of out-of-home placement;
  2. Have difficulty in establishing or maintaining normal interpersonal relationships to such a degree that they are at risk of hospitalization or out-of-home placement because of conflicts with family or community;
  3. Exhibit inappropriate behavior that necessitates repeated interventions by the mental health, social services, or judicial systems; and/or
  4. Exhibit difficulty in cognitive/behavioral ability such that they are unable to recognize personal danger or recognize significantly inappropriate social behaviors.

Services shall be provided when there is a risk of out-of-home placement due to clinical needs or:
